Major Sanders of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord August 13, 2012. He was born July 14, 1940 in Oakman, Alabama to the late Charlie and Everlena Sanders.
He confessed to Christ at an early age at New Bethel Baptist Church in Oakman, Alabama. He rededicated himself to Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church on March 12, 2000.
Major retired from Ford Motor Company in 2005. After retiring he loved gardening and sports.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vera; two daughters, Felicia and Vanessa; one goddaughter, Tina; three step-daughters; two step-sons; four grandchildren; three great granddaughters; a host of nieces and nephews; two sisters, Hallie and Lena; and three brothers, Charles, Thomas and Lloyd. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2012 in Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Alex Crittenden will officiate.
