Walter Gibson LeTarte died Monday January 21, 2013 at the age of 84 in Punta Gorda, FL. He was born on March 15, 1928 in Detroit Michigan to George & Florence LeTarte. He graduated from Annunciation High School in Detroit in 1946. He enlisted in the Coast Guard after High School and served his country like so many other True Patriots of his generation. After serving his country, he married his wife of 61 years June Patricia LeTarte (McAloney). They put down their roots in southeastern Michigan where they raised their 7 children. Richard & Ann LeTarte, Michael & Vera LeTarte, Suzanne & Chuck (Smith), Daniel & Becky LeTarte, Trish Lafever, Claudia & John (Kortz), Jennifer & Eric (Meyers). Walter was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph & Edward his son Richard and granddaughter Cinthia Smith.
Walter was a self-employed entrepreneur at the LeTarte Co. Inc. He spent 35 plus years in the special tooling and sawing industry along with his brothers Joseph, Frank & Edward. Walter was a long time member of the St. Joseph church choir in Port Huron and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed singing and playing the ukulele and the banjo. Walter was a loving husband, father & grandfather and always stood ready to support “your” dreams no matter how big or small.
A funeral service will take place at 11 AM Monday in the Smith Family Funeral Home – South, 1230 7th Street with The Rev. Fr. Brian K. Cokonougher officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Cemetery under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be made at the discretion of the donor. www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com.
