Name: Julia I. "Judy" Hayes Date: July 29th, 2010 Obituary: Julia I. “Judy” Hayes, 88 of Port Huron, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 in Marwood Nursing & Rehab following a long illness. She was born to Charles and Vianna Rushing on March 9, 1922 in Rushing, Arkansas and attended school in Oblong, IL where she graduated from Oblong High School. On December 8, 1945, Judy married James R. “Bob” Hayes in Oblong. They moved to Port Huron in 1948. They were former members of the First United Methodist Church in Port Huron, and she volunteered at both Marwood Nursing & Rehab and the Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Judy was an avid golfer, bowler, and cross country skier. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. Judy is survived by her three daughters, Diana (Randy) Friedland of Spring Lake, MI, Sandra Tanton of Fort Gratiot, and Janet Hayes of Burtchville; five grandchildren, Jill Friedland, Donald (Karen) Tanton, Jason (Jennifer) Friedland, Joseph (Jenny) Tanton, and Jolene (Keith)Friedland-Cox; two great grandchildren, Donnie Tanton Jr. and Marlin Cox III; two sisters, Norma Allison and Marion (Charles) Lamb, both of Florida; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hayes, who died August 20, 1984. She was also predeceased by her son, Robbie Hayes, and a sister, Linda Nagle. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The funeral service will be in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Monday preceded by one hour of visitation. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital Chaplin, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Judy’s family will serve as her pallbearers.
